Reader’s Question:
I have been very busy in my career and the Car Insurance rate that I have when I was young is actually high and I haven’t had the luxury of time to have it altered. Is there any Car Insurance here in New Jersey that can give me cheap car insurance rate and factors in finding cheap car insurance through the net?
Jazz
Edison, NJ
People who are very busy with everything are usually asking for something that they can do over to their house or their offices if they are on break. Good news is that we can already search for everything even car insurance rates through the net. And of course everyone wants a Car Insurance with the cheapest possible rate they can get.
In New Jersey, you can get a lot of Car Insurance rates by searching in the right website. The only problem that can occur is that you can’t tell which one is the best and whether it is the one you are looking for. You can’t compare the quotes you have gotten if they have given you an insurance policy for your car that is expensive. The only thing you could do is to know the main factors in knowing how much you should pay for your car insurance. The three main factors you should know is how much coverage you would want, how much deduction you would pay from your own money excluding how much the car insurance will pay, how can your credits, driving record, age, gender, marital status can influence your rate. Searching and knowing the best for you is something you should prioritize.

Reader’s Question:
Am I still required to get complete auto insurance coverage for my older vehicle here in New Jersey?
Camille
Camden, NJ
Although you are required by the financial responsibility laws of New Jersey to carry auto insurance, it is not mandated to carry a complete auto insurance coverage package. You only have to get the minimum levels of liability insurance coverage in your state. For New jersey, that would be 15/30/5: $15,000 Total Liability insurance coverage for each person you injure in a car accident, $30,000 minimum total coverage for all persons injured per accident and an additional $5,000 which would pay for repairs or replacement of damaged/ destroyed properties per accident. Whatever further auto insurance coverage policies or amounts you buy would be your choice.
Many people actually find it advantageous to lower, even drop Comprehensive and Collision Insurance Coverage all together on an older, pre-damaged or pre-owned vehicle. The cost of filing an insurance claim for damages to older, less expensive vehicles would not be as cost-effective as it would if the claim is filed for a brand-new top of the line vehicle. You might end up paying a higher deductible and it may prove cheaper to get the repairs done yourself. If your car is on equity loan, however, your lenders may require you to maintain the collision and comprehensive insurance coverage, since these policies under your auto insurance protects, and restores, the financial or monetary worth of your vehicle in the event of loss.

Reader’s Question:
It’s probably time for me to replace my very old car with a new one but I’m still concerned with my car insurance. Does the type of vehicle that I will purchase matter in determining my car insurance rates here in New Jersey?
Gaƫl
Toms River, NJ
The type of car that you drive is one of the factors that determine the cost of your car insurance in New Jersey. Part of the formula of your insurance cost is the make and model of your car because car insurance companies relate it to the expenses they would have to shell out in an accident or if your car is stolen. When a new vehicle model is introduced, car insurance organizations make a comparison on the probable costs for that vehicle to insure against other car makes and models. While experience builds up for that vehicle, its rating could go up or down and it can influence your premiums for collision and comprehensive coverage.
Based on the vehicle ratings, sports cars and sport utility vehicles (SUV) are just two types of vehicles that perhaps cost more to insure in terms of auto liability coverage. Some car insurance companies evaluate an SUV in another way which is based on the vehicle’s account of causing further damage to other cars during an accident. So if you are purchasing a new car, you must research on its crash test rating and make sure that the car has low insurance losses in real crashes to help you save on your car insurance rates. Aside from the type of vehicle that you drive, other factors include your driving history, credit score, your location, insurance claims history, age, sex, the type of coverage and how much coverage you buy.

Reader’s Question:
I am getting my own auto insurance coverage soon here in New Jersey. I was told by my father that I need to get uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage for it is required. Since I didn’t have the chance to ask him what it is, could you give me a bit of an idea as to what it does?
Lazaro
Wayne, NJ
Certainly, Lazaro, I can help you understand what protection uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage can give you. Uninsured motorist will give you coverage if you get hit by a driver who is at-fault in the accident and doesn’t have auto insurance at all. Uninsured motorist property damage is especially useful if you don’t have collision coverage as part of your auto insurance policy in New Jersey. This is a great way to protect your vehicle from uninsured motorists without a substantial increase in your rates. Uninsured motorist bodily injury could come in handy in another way. Even as a pedestrian and you get hit by a vehicle, this type of coverage will cover your medical bills as well as lost wages. This is very important even if you have medical payments coverage as part of your policy because that won’t cover for any lost wages.
On the other hand, underinsured motorist coverage will give you protection in case you get in an accident and the other driver who is at-fault doesn’t have enough coverage to pay for the damages to you and your vehicle. Underinsured motorist coverage would only pay up to the maximum value of your auto insurance policy after deducting the cost paid by the other motorist’s insurance.

Reader’s Question:
I’m a new resident here in New Jersey and I don’t know if my requirements meet the one on this state since I came from another state. Is there anything that I have to know about car insurances here in the state of New Jersey?
Ally
Elizabeth, NJ
Almost every citizen who just moved in New Jersey is actually worried whether their car insurance policy meets the requirement of the state. It is best for those citizens who are in question to check with the Department of Banking and Insurance of the state for them to know the state policies.
The thing that New Jersey is known to is that it is also a No Fault State which makes New Jersey drivers comprehensively insured. But even if it is a No Fault Policy, there are still listed exemptions just like one should take a Liability Policy or the list the Minimum Liability Policy to cover some of the expenses one cannot afford even with their car insurance. But with our present economy, medical bills skyrocketed too that there is a big possibility that the other party will not be able to pay for all the damages so it is much required to have at least more than the minimum liability. And aside from this advised policy, one should get a Personal Injury Protection to pay for medical expense and other things that may occur and that it can be also extended to the other party if they don’t have enough coverage. Laws are good for one doesn’t need to suffer in an accident but you also have to protect yourself.

Reader’s Question:
Can you tell me more about how one can be a victim of car insurance fraud? I’ve seen some distressing news about it lately here in New Jersey and I don’t want to be a statistic.
Irene
Jersey City, NJ
Over the years car insurance fraud has become a very serious matter for motorists and car owner’s everywhere. Everyone who owns a vehicle and pays for auto insurance should be aware of how these criminals operate and how they victimize people, cheating them out of their money, causing emotional and financial distress (causing the victim’s auto insurance premiums to increase significantly) and even putting innocent lives at risk.
Since we believe that everyone should be as diligent as you are in raising awareness about car insurance fraud, here are some of the more popular methods that car insurance scammers utilize, everyone should be prepared:
“Rear-Enders” Staged Accidents
A vehicle driven by one of the accomplice vehicle will suddenly speed right in front of you and suddenly slam it’s brakes, not giving you enough time to respond and therefore causing you to crash towards it. And since Rear-end collisions like this will most likely be treated by a judge as your fault, you will have to pay for pre-inflicted damages and maybe even for fake injuries.
The “Good Samaritan”
There will be a person who seems to be trying to help you by waving you seemingly out of traffic jams or dangers but will actually cause you to crash into another (accomplice) vehicle and will deny doing so in court or an investigation, leaving you paying up for damages or injuries that may very well have also been staged.

Reader’s Question:
Up until now I have never really paid attention about car insurance, not until a friend got involved in a car accident here in Camden, New Jersey and found out that she doesn’t have full coverage, how do I know that I have a good car insurance policy?
Valerie
Camden, NJ
For some people, it would take the harsh reality of being involved (worse, at-fault) in a car accident, and realizing they have not been carrying adequate auto insurance to cover for all the damages caused, before seriously taking and paying attention on their insurance policies. You don’t have to be like that though. Knowing very well the scopes and limitations of your insurance policy you have there in Camden, New Jersey will be to your advantage.
Minimum Liability Coverage
Make sure you have at least the minimum state required liability coverage amount. Liability insurance, if you didn’t know, pays for any financial obligations you may be required to pay injured people or to repair/ replace damaged property in the event you caused a car accident.
For New Jersey, the minimum coverage amounts would be 15/30/5 which means a total of $15,000 payable to the injured person per accident, total of $30,000 payable to all parties injured in the car crash and $5,000 to pay for property damages. We would encourage you to get higher since you can be sued for bigger amounts in a car crash.
You should also know if you can afford to pay the agreed upon deductible if you do file a claim. You would want to grab your copy of the insurance policy and make sure you understand the fine print. Doing so will already tell you if your insurance policy is good enough.

Readers Question:
My son is a new driver for he had just turned to his legal age. I heard that car insurance rates for teenagers are really high, are there any tips on receiving lower car insurance rates here in Jersey City, New Jersey?
Matt
Jersey City, NJ
Cars for teenagers are actually an obsession when they reach the right age. Teen Car Insurance is really a problem for parents for this will make their premium higher. If your teen had just turned sixteen, you can actually ask them to be two or three years older before they drive, for the older you get, the lower premium you’ll get. But since it is really very unlikely for the teen to wait for more years before they drive, it is better to know the ways here in Jersey City, New Jersey to lower your premium.
If your teen is a new driver with their new car, it is better for the parent to buy them at least the older and slower cars. The older and slower the car, the lower your premium you can get, since old and slower cars are most unlikely to be driven carelessly. For new drivers, you can persuade your teen to enroll in a driving school. When they finish the course then they will be able to lower their rates. At first, your teen car insurance premium is high, but if he had been driving carefully for a period of time without any traffic tickets and minor damages, surely your teen will get a generous discount.

Reader’s Question:
I just moved here in Paterson, New Jersey and my car insurance has just ended. I had a discount for having an anti lock brake on my car from the state I previously resided. Does the state of New Jersey also have that kind of discount on car insurance?
Bill
Paterson, NJ
I understand that at the present time, you are probably thinking about all the bills that you have to pay, including your car insurance premium in Paterson, New Jersey, because I do, too. And it is likely that you can get better premiums from another insurance provider, than what your current insurer offers you. Since your car insurance coverage has just ended, you could be able to save on your premiums if you ensure that you get all the discounts that you are entitled to, keep a clean driving record, by driving a ‘low-profile car’ and of course, by shopping around.
Car insurance companies in the state of New Jersey offer several kinds of discounts such as a price reduction for vehicle security features. That could also lessen the price that you pay for your car insurance. The number one item on the list of vehicle safety features that could save you a lot would be the antilock brakes. New Jersey persuades motorists to purchase vehicles that have antilock brakes by requiring auto insurance companies to offer discounts. Some other safety features that could often give you discount are airbags as well as automatic seat belts.

Reader’s Question:
I just got my driver’s license here in Jersey City, New Jersey, and I would like to know what factors can make car insurance rates high before I buy one. Thanks!
Kurt
Jersey City, NJ
Hello Kurt. Congratulations for getting your driver’s license! You must be very excited to hit the road already. Along with your new found freedom comes the responsibility of maintaining adequate car insurance coverage not only for your personal and financial well-being, but for others as well. So it would be to your advantage to know how car insurance companies determine the rates you pay.
Here’s a list of factors that affects car insurance rates and premiums:
1. Your age has a big impact on how your insurance rates are evaluated. Young, inexperienced drivers are considered more prone to be involved in car accidents to expect your premiums for the first year to be high.
2. The kind of car you drive affects your insurance rates. Sports cars costs more to insure than older vehicles.
3. Your credit history, or lack off, can also influence your insurance premiums. Insurance companies sees the lack of an established credit history in the same light as a bad credit rating, until you are able to show them otherwise.
4. Where you live also affects your insurance rates. Urban dwellers are statistically more inclined to get involved in car crashes as compared to those who live in the country.
I suggest you get at least five or six quotes online to determine the best provider there for your car in Jersey City, New Jersey. Make sure you get a good idea of what’s out there base your purchase on what you will need for insurance, not what’s cheapest.
